Question Dracula felix - size of leaves?

I just ordered a couple of orchids (Phrag. pearcei, pleurothallis alveolata, comparettia falcata, pleurothallis angustipetala and dracula felix) from ecuagenera.

Anways, I was wondering if anyone knows the approximate size/length of the leaves of dracula felix?

I'm afraid I may have difficulty fitting it in my tank!

Thanks!

I have no idea, but I'm bumping this up to the top for others to see who may know. If you find you can't manage this one in your tank, I will sacrifice space at my place and take it off your hands for you!

Well, it really is a gorgeous species -- a photo:

Dracula felix - Ecuagenera

The leaves look fairly long, but photos can be quite deceiving! And, I haven't managed to find any photos that show them clearly!

Anyhow, thanks for your response! I'm sure you wouldn't mind taking it off my hands! haha

A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!
Seriously, I love Masd. but I am having a tough time keeping my two going. They have nice new growth and all, but no buds since I got them a year and a half ago. I thought my conditions are right and I would have no problem, but I do. They were in bloom when I bought them, so they are mature. I love Draculas though.
They fascinate me.
Yours should be fine in your tank......but I'm here just in case!

Sorry I dont know much about the Dracula, yet.. I have been looking at Ecuagenera and would appreciate it if you gave me some info on the quality of the chids and on the transactions, import etc.

Thanks
S.

Kiki-do,

I grow almost all of the Dracula species, and I must say that Dracula felix is up there with being an avid grower, very adaptable, and very forgiving. It is definitely a great species to add to your collection!

Dracula felix belongs to Subsection Costatae, which a typical characteristic for this subsection is a downward travel for the flowers. If growing in a confined area (like your terrarium), you would need to have the plant somehow mounted upon something that would prevent that downward travel.

As for leaf length, they can get VERY long! They may outgrow your tank quite quickly... I can suggest some Dracula species that stay relatively small...

Good luck!
-Pat

Hopefully it's ok to post this site. It seems ok, not a huge amount of info but it might help you, I haven't check this particular species......

Or perhaps send an email to the Pleurothallid Alliance. They seem to know everything about these beauties.

Hey Pat!
I was enticed to D. felix for the showy blooms, but if the leaves are going to get too long, it may very well outgrow my 15g viv (1/3 of which is water reserve!)!

What species can you recommend that will stay smaller and (preferably) have larger blooms?

Thanks!
Ema

Hey there!
As a fellow Canadian, I know your concerns about import. Especially from somewhere as far as Ecuador!
I'm ordering from EcuaGenera and arranging for pick up at the TAOS show in April, so we'll see how it goes!
