Hi again all,
This was one of the original 2 Masdevallia's I got in 2013 from Graham @ Lehua Orchids before he stopped doing Masdie's. It was a nice sized plant when I got it but over the last five years it has become HUGE especially by Masdie standards lol...so divided it into 3 smaller divisions and one large main plant...just recently when it was in early spike x3 (wasn't intentional....but I've been trying to wait for it to stop flowering forever...and every time I'd go to divide it I'd find a spike) so it was really overdue for this "haircut" so to speak.
This flower is off one of the smaller divisions, the other 2 spikes/buds are fine and growing still too, another one on one of the other smaller divisions, and one on the larger mother plant.
It is grown in a clay pot, medium is Orichiata and sponge rock on a North-Western windowsill with Phals. It is my most warm loving masdie it is very free flowering and is easy to keep happy and flower. It grows like a weed, water 3-4 times per week, and fert once a month with a balanced fertilizer at 1/2 strength. It is watered with regular well water and nothing else special care wise....the flowers are fairly large and nicely cupped, very nice substance and hold their form and color well for about 4 weeks per flower. I have had zero trouble keeping this one in Florida on a windowsill.
Hope you guys enjoy
Kathy
