One of the very few masdies in my collection. I typically stay away from them as "cool and humid" in not something I can accommodate. A number of years ago, I was doing a trade with a gent on this forum. He had offered this masdie as part of the trade but I originally refused for the reasons stated above. He said he really wanted me to give this one a try so I said yes. It is in a plastic basket pot and has had some near misses. Originally I had it planted normally in the pot (with the leaves coming out the top). But something happened and the leaves started dying rapidly. I figured it was a lost cause but kept the media moist. Lost all the top growth but, much to my surprise, it sent a new growth out the side of the pot. I let it do its thing and it has continued to grow out that side. New top growth never resumed. Someday, I suppose I'll have to destroy the basket pot to get it out. Most surprising to me is that it has survived my arid winter air. (My winter RH is usually around 10-15%.)

It's amazing how resilient some of these plants are.

It really is. Just wish the flowers had opened up a bit more. Photos I've seen online do show the edges flaring out a bit (though still very "cuppy") which does display the interior better improving the overall appearance. Don't know why this one doesn't ... whether it is a problem of culture or a genetic defect in this particular individual.
