Masd. barlaeana is a close relative of M. coccinea, and grows in bright filtered light high in the Andes. Temp range is 45-72F.

This is the best shot I could get, before my camera batteries died.

Enjoy!

Wow, congratulations! Its a difficult orchid. I tried and failed at growing it. Thanks for sharing this one though.

Cool Masdie, Cj! Is it of the same size of M. coccinea?

Mauro: Flowers are around 5cm tall. Leaves are 12-18cm long.

how unfortunate that so many of the really beautiful Masdies are cool growers. *sigh* I'll have to just keep enjoying the work of others.....

Its not unfortunate for me!! Its what brought me back to growing orchids... I look longingly sometimes at all of those gorgeous vandas and other hot growers that some people can keep, but I've got Masdies as consolation when I am too tempted!

Paul, that's how I've always felt too

I recently discovered I. N. KOMODA ORCHIDS
and they specialize in Masdies that can be considered warmth-tolerant. Received an order last week that I am thrilled with...very healthy plants
