Masdevallia strobelii
I got six spikes and five blooms out of this little beauty. They bloomed in a near perfect ring at the base of the plant. One bud rotted - my fault, I think I got it wet and it didn't dry out quick enough. The flowers lasted about two weeks and have all but faded at this point, but I have been busy with other things and didn't have a moment to post. During the day, it had a faint, sweet scent... reminded me of cotton candy. It was only noticeable if you put your nose to the flower. The evening, maybe for any hour before dusk, the scent was stronger but still on the faint side but could be smelled from two feet or so away and smelled more like lilacs in the spring.
Not the best pictures and they don't do it justice, but I still wanna share them. I'm very happy with the little guy

Tentacles and fragrant, tickle the nose TWO ways in one.
Are you growing that semi-hydroponically, or standard culture with LECA as medium? How far into the LECA do roots extend?

I am growing this guy in s/h. It's in a small plastic cup you get at the grocery store, maybe equivalent in size to a 2.5 pot and the holes are drilled an inch, or maybe a little less from the bottom. The roots I can see go down about half way, give or take. This particular plant seems to have taken to it rather.
Maybe a little irrelevant, but I have found that boiling the LECA I used prior to use for ~10min instead of soaking overnight makes it more porous and wicks the water up better than when I soak it. Since doing that, the Masdies have taken to S/H better since the dry line isn't so low.

Thanks. I'm new to Masdies. I've been too chicken to try them in S/H because my other S/H plants don't wick up very far. But maybe one piece of the plant I just divided into a small plastic cup, like the one you show here....

Really cute, I need one now. I like the furry looking inside and that the flowers are not real tall. I am collecting the cute species masdies and these are right up there. Love them, good job.

Thanks everyone! It sure is a cutie all around. The flowers are low and the plant is definitely small... Probably around 3" tall.

Are they only on E-Bay? Why does ordering from them scare me. Anything that I am not use to makes me nervous. I will try and look them up.
