I know, I'm so exited. It did have 2 spikes last year but they dried up. I just couldn't keep the humidity up even though I had the humidifier over the top of them. I really think it is going to make it this year. I can hardly wait.

80% is very high for me. I can only get it as high as 70%. And I can't keep it at a constant 70% either. It varies to as low as 35% when the humidifier dries out. I don't have ignea but I have coccinea and veitchiana. My temps stay in the 60's. I could make it colder but then my humidity drops. I hope my conditions are enough.

Me too as I would love to see both of them bloom. I put the humidifier inside my tent and I now can keep my humidity at what ever I want. I try and keep it in the 80's now. And they are nice and cool. I'll put up some pictures of it. I want to find both of these.

All these pictures of Masdies...I bought my second one last weekend. Sigh. I hope that these don't become an addiction. :|

... I guess it will depend on your definition of addiction! I mean... I stopped buying orchids all over the place... I only buy Masdies like crazy now!

I am going to be the black sheep. My humidity rarely gets above 50% in the winter where I grow the majority of my cooler growing plants. I don't want it above 60% for fear of mold issues in my apartment. . I rarely have leafy drop issues- only a few have and they stopped once I addressed the underlying issue: water restriction. One, a glandulosa, had rotted roots. I mounted it on a kool log and it's slowly recovering. The other, a constricta, got too dry in transit but had healthy roots and a few days in s/h stopped the drop.

A long winded way to say humidity can be secondary with healthy plants- at least mine. However, it is also critical in recovering leaf droppers since higher humidity will slow water loss.

I don't quite understand; would you mind elaborating? Do you mean water restriction is bad, or do you mean you need to restrict water when it's cooler? Or something else?

Sorry- the plant is unable to take up water either because there is no water (too dry) or the plant has no roots to take it up with. I was typing quick and didn't formulate my thoughts very well...
