Default Masdevallia Machu Picchu 'Crown Point' AM/AOS

Hi all,

As you may remember, I got this one from Golden Gate orchids. This is Masdevallia Machu Picchu 'Crown Point' AM/AOS.

I believe that this clone is known for producing two flowers per stem. I found out by reading the description of the clone at Golden Gate website. Infact this one is producing a second bloom on an old spike. What fun!

The parents are M. ayabacana x M. coccinea.

Gorgeous color! Not having your experience with Masdevallia, I have a Masdevallia magic wand I bought from Al's a few months ago. It had one spike at the time and it bloomed three times on the one spike! I had no idea they would rebloom like this. The plant is fairly small and has six spikes now and still blooming. This will be the third flower on each spike. I have been surprised by the reblooming and happy with the hybrid. The parents are impostor and floribunda. It apparently is a warm grower.

I do love it Tindo, I like how the legs cross. I know I don't know what the right term is.

I have an Imposter and they do that but I am not sure about the floribunda. I like when they re-bloom on a spike also. My Impostor is having it's second bloom on a spike just going to open.

Beautiful!! I am still waiting for mine to bloom, I got it about 2 years ago at Hausemann and has 5 growths now working on another, I got it with 3. I am not sure how mature it has to be to bloom?

According to Orchid Wiz both parents in the breeding of Masd Magic Wand are cool growers 14 - 24 degrees Centigrade at night.
Mine go down to about 9 degrees and it does not appear to effect them.

beautiful, tindo... this on your grow case? Awfully big to put in a case, but i guess yours is quite sizely to fit vireyas... that maroon/purple is a nice blend of colors that could easily veer more towards burnt red...

impostor is really fairy intermediate, and sequential blooming.. floribunda is pretty warm growing but on most part not sequential blooming... put them together and you get a fairly warm growing sequential bloomer. I grew impostor years ago and it handled 90's, but not for long... floribunda has been warm growing for me, some have been found even in vera cruz mexico, as this is where paul from sboe told me he found a form/species of it...

infracta and floribunda are probably to my knowledge the warmest growers, so any hybrid with those should be fairly tolerant. ok, actually there are some others just can't think of all of them at moment... but those two are used moreso in breeding than others....
