I keep the bottoms of all my mounts in water for the orchids that need to be kept damp (including the Masdevallia nicaraguae). With this, though, they do need adequate air space around them or you get mold and rotting issues. Some orchids will do great in an enclosed jar but I found that many need more space, more air. Good luck with it! I look forward to pictures of the blooms!

PS. You should try the Masdevallia nicaraguae again. It is a nifty one.

It doesn't look much different. I haven't let it dry out. There is no water reservoir at the bottom of the vase. I keep the plate on top of the vase most of the time. The hygrometer inside shows humidity is around 80%.

I take it out every 2 or 3 days and dip it in rain water. Once I dipped it in an MSU fertilizer mix at 85 PPM nitrogen. The moss stays moist, and is starting to get green algae growth.

I can't tell which growths are the oldest. The rhizome is in the moss and I don't want to disturb it. The longest growth visible in the first photo is gradually wrinkling more and more. The other growths are unchanged. Does this genus grow like Cattleya, with the concave side of each leaf facing more or less in the direction of rhizome elongation?
