Default Lepanthes calodictyon in a globe: maintenance

I was inspired by members of OB to try growing some Pleurothallids in glass globes and it worked like a charm.

In particular, L. calodictyon has been growing like a weed and is starting to fill up the globe. At the same time, the moss has grown as well and I can't tell where the orchid ends and the moss begins. It seems to have multiple growth points, because leaves shoot up from different spots.

My question is: do I divide this or move it to a bigger enclosure? or do i leave it as is? I'm a bit concerned about all the moss. I seem to recall reading that some mosses are allelopathic, but the Lepanthes doesn't seem to be suffering.

That's one of the most beautiful terraria I've seen.

You're going to have to divide it eventually, but I agree - that's fantastic as it is, for now.

When you do get ready to break it up, I suggest that you use a sharp knife to cut straight down the middle, splitting it in two, and set up two of them.

This is a very appealing plant. If the plant has out grown this space, then I would follow other advice (Ray's) and divide in two. You could support your orchid habit, if you sell the other one. I was bidding on a similar plant on eBay, the price of a four leafed plant went over US$50!!

Seeing how lovely your plant is, I am encouraged to grow my plant, when I can get one, the same way. I was considering going elaborate and buy a wine cooler and adapt it to grow these Lepanthes.

Well grown! You might just want to trim the moss back. But not totally remove it because they do help maintain humidity and proper moisture.

This is amazing, it really is! I recently purchased this plant and have it in a similar globe. How long have you been growing this and how much light is it receiving? The moss is beautiful as well.

I would be hard pressed to divide such a specimen, although you certainly could easily. Is this planted in moss or potted? Wow, thank you for sharing!

That's gorgeous! I would leave it for now, and divide in two when it fill the space.

Thanks, everyone! This is one of my favorite plants.

I got this plant in January 2014. It hangs on my grow rack and gets a fair amount of light (from fluorescents and the window) but no direct sun.

It came mounted on a small piece of cork, but the moss has overgrown the cork and it looks like the plant grown into the moss.
