Lepanthes calodictyon keiki?
I recently received this Lepanthes calodictyon from Seattle Orchids. It has been blooming, still is and so cute. It has lost a few old leaves and has 5 new leaves growing. My question though is, there is a leaf where the old bloom had been seems to be growing another leaf with stem or a keiki with tiny roots. Is this possible? Do they have keiki like this? Sorry if this is a dumb question. Thanks!

None of my Lepanthes has done it but a Pleurothallis has.
There is a big Pleurothallid (since I don't know what it was, I'll just leave it at the alliance level but probably a Pleurothallis for the fleshy leaves) at the Conservatory of Flowers in SF that was keiki-ing all over the place.

Thanks AnonYMouse, I couldn't find any mention of a keiki on a Lepanthes anywhere I've looked. I too have a Pleurothallis allenii that currently has a keiki on a mature leaf. This Lepanthes is my first, I do have a Lepanthesopsis astrophora though no others...yet. I really enjoy these. I will try to get a decent picture of this keiki to post, my pictures just don't look very good here except in my photo album.

Picture is small here, sorry. The keiki growth is on the lowest leaf on the right side.

I have read that producing keikis is normal for these and you can remove it and plant it (not sure of the details of when and how, though).

Thank you Leafmite I think I will leave it alone and see what happens. If I don't remove it I believe it will root itself to the mount, guess we'll see. I'm just really happy to have finally found this plant, a baby is a plus!

My Lepanthes get keikis periodically. It's normal and nothing to worry about. Keep the roots moist, and let it grow a few more leaves and roots and you'll have a whole new plant!

Jellybean, I was so surprised to see the little keiki I was not sure what I was really looking at until it grew taller. What a nice bonus!
