Masdevallia Drying Out? Male
Default Masdevallia Drying Out?

Ok I know for sure that no masdie would like to dry out completely, but I have been seeing so much conflicting info on the high elevation non-cloud forest species lately (eg vietchiana, coccinea, amabilis, etc). Some say to allow them to dry at the roots somewhat (for example, the very top 1 cm or so of potting mix) while others say to water them like crazy to the point where no dryness can be detected. All cases apply for pot culture only and the advice all comes from successful growers. I tried drying my vietchiana out a bit, but happened to lose some roots (or that could just be from repotting). At the same time, I don't want to overwater them and lose them to a combination of root rot and relatively high summer temperatures (temperature is the least of my worries as growers near my area have said that healthy plants were able to handle our temperatures with the right care). So what's your relative experience with watering these plants?
