Scaphosepalum swertifolium in bloom
One of the buds on my Scaphosepalum swertifolium ssp exiguum 'The Hobbit' opened yesterday.
I'm fairly new to this genus, but apparently if you leave the old spikes alone they'll continue to bloom. Since I've had it it's produced two new buds. The buds look like bull horns and the blooms look like Balrogs, which is pretty cool.
Anyone else have experience with this species?

You need to grow a Bulbophyllum medusae next to it, with a little sign "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!"

Had a swerti for a short time...cooling became an issue but neat plants. Got mine and a few others from J&L in Connecticut where they call them "rams head" orchids. BAAAAAAAAAAA!

Hahaha, awesome idea! I'll be picking up a medusae in a few weeks at my society's annual show (ordered it in). I'll make a little sign out of cardboard and put it between them. The medusae will obviously have to be named Gandalf.

Ok, I love the fun you guys are having with this. It really does look like a Balrog. Congrats.
