Ooo, that's very helpful, thanks AnonYmouse! Based on your pictures, it does look more like a growth than a spike.

I'm very excited that it's growing, doesn't matter spike or leaf.

Very cool little setup. I have seen those glass orbs for sale everywhere. They are becoming popular.

Another update, the thing is still growing. I took this picture through a 5x magnifying glass, while my daughter (age 12) laughed and laughed. She said "Why don't you just get a plant you can see, Mom?"

I have ordered a macro lens.
