masdevalia id help

Any Ideas which masdevalia this is?

It is from Costa Rica.

It might be Masdevallia striatella - IOSPE PHOTOS

There are a number of striped hybrid masdies also.
How did you acquire it ?

Next to my farm (in Costa Rica) there is a farm that grows cana india, itua..other plants that are harvested and sent to the US and Europe, I remove the interesting plants before the plants are harvested.

It looks like it could be Masd. rimarima alba as well, but if it was growing wild in Costa Rica striatella is more likely. As Dorothy said there are many stripey hybrids, but there are also many stripey species.

Do you have a closer pic of the flowers?

It isn't the best flower but it is not the best photo.

I looked at bot it is hard to tell but is from the wild in CR

I agree, definitely Reichantha striatella (ex-Masdevallia)... a fantastic find!

Tindo: I'd personally recommend them, as the entire series of 21 volumes covers almost all of the Masdevallia species with a description and detailed watercolors of each species done by Stig Dalström. More of a picture-reference book than detailed information of the genus. The book is printed in German, which may pose a problem to most people. Luer also has the 7 volume series of Thesaurus Dracularum, which covers almost all of the Dracula species and printed in the same manner. The only problem with both Thesaurus is the price, where each volume can cost anywhere from $50-$120. For more detailed information, you can never go wrong with Carl Luer's Icones Pleurothallidinarum (27 volumes to date)... No pretty pictures, just systematic line drawings...

I can barely afford one volume at that price. And I don't know German either. But how hard can it be.

I thought the Thesaurus was done in German and English. Thesaurus Dracularum is bi-lingual, and AWESOME by the way. I got it used for way cheaper than new in really good shape!
