Restrepia brachypus

Hi all,

Here is my new picture(s) of Restrepia brachypus. Usually when I take pics of this flower I can only focus on one section of the flower. However I learned how to do photo stacking. Here is my first attempt at it. I took 26 shots with different focus points and blended them together to get this photo. Hope you like it.
This is growing in my large exoterra terrarium which I maintain at around 60-75 degrees year round.

Niiiiice! It's amazing how different our brachypus look! Yours has much more purple on it than mine. I just love the variety in this species! It makes it so fun with it's first bloom

I like the photo stacking that you did! I think that will be the next thing I try since it's so hard to get any depth with macro shots like these. Was it difficult to get the shot right? What software did you use to stack the photo?

I used Photoshope elements 12, but had to add actions to get it to work
up until yesterday I didn;t know what an action was.
Getting the shots was easy with a tripod, it was figuring out how to use PSE to process them that took forever. But now I will be able to do it much faster.

Don't worry, that was me last week. Its amazing how much you can learn in a little while.

Photo stacking is when you take multiple shots of the same subject. You take the multiple shots if you can't get the entire subject in focus with one shot. So you focus on different spots and then combine them so that all the infocus parts come out in the final product.

I love R. brachypus - mine usually blooms in mid-late spring and late summer-early fall.

Your photo looks great! I hope one day I will be able to get a decent camera and learn to take some decent photos for a change.
