Masd. ayabacana
Not only a pretty flower, but, much to my surprise, a serial bloomer. Not long after this flower dropped off, another bud began to develop.

I love this one, can't grow it. What culture do you give it?

I haven't had this one long enough to be confident about its culture. I'll be growing it like my other masdies, in sphagnum and trying to keep it cool in the summer, which is a challenge here in Zone 5. Maybe someone else has some hints.

Firstly, it's a gorgeous flower!
This one is part of the Regalia group. I have a special place in my heart for these members. Most of them actually prefer a cool to intermediate temperature range. I grow mine in sphagnum and some in a bark mix that I made. My greenhouse is set to 55 in the Winter. They like high light very diffused, no direct sun. My ayabacana bloomed in January last year through July. It had 16 spikes. I don't think it will bloom this year. The members of this group are sequential bloomers and can bloom many times from the same inflorescence. Never cut the spike until is it dried up and brown. One of my princeps (also Regalia) bloomed 18 times from the same inflorescence! It's still blooming and it's been a year. I received an AM/AOS for that plant, Masd. princeps "Polarizeme".
Masd. panguiensis from this group is a true cool grower. Mine is spiking now, a first for me. I'll post photos once it opens.

Took the words right from me . In fact I swear I have said this before too.
I stopped growing these after I lost most my Masdie collection, but I still have M. princeps, and M. regina. For some reason, I just can't get these to bloom for me.
For some time I had most of the species and a bunch of their hybrids. Like I said, lost most of them after I went on a trip.
I wrote an article on the group, maybe you guys will enjoy it?

Tindo, I have found that if you give them really high light winter through Spring the leaves will turn a bit yellow, and they will reward you with blooms. I grow them in the same light as veitchiana, amabilis, macrura and coccinea. My macrura is spiking now, I'm very excited about that!
