Do you think using a mix of 50:50 Sphagnum : cypress mulch would work?
Cypress mulch is slightly acidic and takes much longer to decompose in moist environments

I have never used it. I did just re-pot my Masdevallia's in tree fern and spagh so I am hoping that will help.
