Default Restrepia mendozae

This plant has bloomed several times this year. I just love the colors. It receives bright filtered/shade light. The temps range from 85-65 in the summer and 60-45 in the winer. Presently it is planted in sphagnum, but it is in need of a repot so I'm going to try a new mix that I put together for my Pleurothallid Alliance.

That is one cool Restrepia! Definitely one of my favorite flowers from this genus (possibly my favorite genus, too).

How do you grow this guy? I'm assuming its one of the intermediate species? I hadn't heard of this one until you posted this picture!

Thank you! This was one of the first Restrepia I owned. It's got a really nice yellow hue to it.

It's one of my favorites too. I was astonished at how pretty it was when I saw it bloom in real life the first time.

I Love Restrepia, I currently have 18 species from this Genus. Restrepia mendozae is listed as a warm grower, but, it's with all my Restrepia in my cool, shade greenhouse with bright indirect light. The temps rarely go over day 85/60 night in the summer. In the winter the lows are near 50, but on average it's 55+ degrees in the day. Most of the plants are in idle mode in the winter. I have a few that bloom early Winter. Almost all Restrepia are cool growers, but tolerate intermediate. I've seen some species do very well in warmer temperatures. Some of them prefer a bit more shade, so they grow under the foliage of the larger species. They really take off with new growth in the Spring, it's amazing.

Great, thanks Liana! I will definitely be looking for this one. If I'm lucky, I might be able to find one at the orchid show in Seattle that's coming up soon. Warm growing Restrepias are a rarity!
