Hey Catherine, yes it takes time to setup, balance all factors of light, humidity, watering, airflow, then tweaking it till it's just right for you and your plants. Once it is setup properly in harmony, it will mature and grow on it's own... It took me about 3 years of tweaking before it was right to add more plants ... A lot of love and headaches goes into it but definitely worthwhile. My tank is more than 15 years now and pretty much self sustaining... What a reward though!! I spend hours watching it... There's even a centipede that lives inside with fruit flies!!! Best of luck!

Leslie

Indeed he is. He crawls over the moss, plants, under the pots and over the flowers. One time he even 'drank' the Pleurothallis nipterophylla flowers and seemed drunk with the odor or nectar and sat on leave, immobilized for 5 minutes. I suspect he may unwittingly pollinated my Mediocalcar versteegii in the cool tank as I just harvested two pods from there !!!
