Masdevallia nidifica Male
Default Masdevallia nidifica

Masdevallia nidifica - very small size Masdevallia, intermediate temps, grown inside on hygrolon, sent quite a few spikes however this is the first one that actually finished and opened the bloom. There is quite a few left, some blasted (as you can see on the first picture) but some very promising! This is the first Masdie of the year in bloom, my erinacea has very nice spikes already too, so that baby will be the second one pretty soon:-)

Beautiful blooms. I am glad you have bloomed your Masdies this spring....mine is just hopeless....I will try again next year or maybe this autumn some might flower.

Many thanks Bud, I am ecstatic, I always loved Masdevalli and many other cold or intermediate growing species, but never though I will be able to grow them, so to be able to bloom Masdies here in Miami is absolutely amazing:-) Will see if other spikes on this baby open too, some have blasted already. I found it very efficient to grow some Masdies in taller vase with just some life moss on the bottom, they do grow like crazy! I have two in the front left vase, one was division of my red wing from the outside, only in the vase for some 2 months, did grow already 8 new leaves!
