I don't have that one... one that I would like to try again now that I have RO water (lost one when I didn't have that good water, I have learned some things since my last attempt many years ago) I think that your greatest hazard will be heat. (I know that Andy's Orchids, major species grower near me, lost a bunch of these in a hot spell a few years ago, temperatures near 100 deg F/38 deg C, very unusual for that coastal area but it isn't the averages but rather the extremes that get us all into trouble) But those were growing outside... indoors you have more control.

Oh, I love seeing your "assistant" peeking through the foliage.

I've attempted that one three times. Agree with Roberta that the biggest challenge will be keeping it cool enough. All three I've had, I forgot to bring inside when it started getting over 80F.

If I ever get one again, it will have to have a dedicated space inside my air conditioned house. And space is always at a premium. But I love that plant!

Air conditioning and a cool room I have but the airflow would not be enough. I have other Masdies but in the terrarium or mounted but this is quite a big plant, and I want to keep it outdoor. Now is not that hot, max 30/86°

While thinking in a more convenient setting I just came up with this cooling roots setup. The pot is surrender by lecca and I can place some small ice cubes on top of the lecca and the foam bottom will keep the melted water cooler. Shade, humidity and air moving are great where I put it.

The main idea of the surrounding the pot to cool out the roots was posted here long ago by a member call Bolero, but he used different materials. I think he/she had quite a good approach to Masdies growing outdoor.

Oh NO! Not the watering orchids with ice cubes schtick!!

I'd encourage you to bring inside if your temps get up to almost 90F. Otherwise, you should be okay. No idea what your annual temperatures are like... although I guess I could go look...

Definitely bring it inside if it is hot - There are some Masdies that are forgiving of heat, but Masd. veitchiana is not one of them.

do not discredit me ...... the ice does not touch the orchid hahaha
So you guys don't like my cooling innovative invention
My temps now are 20 to 30.
But I'll bring it IN, but I am not going to get rid of my cooling setup. I refuse to let go to that

Actually, I love the cooling setup! Ice on a tropical Phalaenopsis is the joke...there are plants sold with a "just add ice" instruction for watering. (Great marketing, the Phal dies and they can sell another_) On a high elevation plant like Masd. veitchiana, the ice is highly appropriate!

Sure, girls got the joke perfectly!!! That is why I told you to give me a little respect hahaha.

I hear that 'ice on an orchid" absurd indication all the time and I end up fighting with normal humans, every time I have a conversation about orchids!

PD: we are the Orchid ET and the rest are humans. 👽
