Masdevallia goliath
I have to admit that this plant status is a little unclear. Some people tell me that it's princeps but I've seen similar plants for sale at international shows as goliath. It was sold to me as goliath and it's likely it is........although princeps is also likely.
Anyway this is the one plant I baby more than any other. It's very hard to grow in my climate, it needs a small amount of heat in winter and not too much heat in summer. If things go wrong then it will drop leaves........leaves don't grow back all that quickly and I wonder if it would do better mounted. Even if it did do better mounted I don't have the time to give it anymore attention than I already do. Anyway as I said it's my favourite plant and I suspect it will come to the grave with me. It's a great example of this wonderful species........
Note: the flower is 25.5cm tall or just over 10 inches high.

Wow, such a lovely flower. I have heard other reports that these plants require a lot of attention, so I'm impressed you can nurture this plant to such a healthy estate! Congratulations.

Great job growing this one and altering conditions to work for you. Spectacular bloom. I was just at a show where Masdie grower was selling princeps and the flowers were darker and a lot smaller...maybe 6 inches. Goliath suits the size.

Excellent photos, Darren!
Personally, it looks like a princeps to me. I know according to Jay's, goliath has a much redder, more solidly colored flower and goliath appears to be a smaller flower to boot.
