Can't remember which thread it was, but someone said a few months ago that Masdies don't ever get big root systems.
Well while I fully agree that if you buy a masdie with hardly any roots you shouldn't worry too much... but I just want to show evidence of brilliant root systems in Masdies as I've just been reminded of this as I re-pot my oldest Masdie (veitchianna).
I've just taken it out of an 11cm (4.3") pot and there was no way it would go back into the 13cm (5") pot I had planned for it... so now it's in a 15cm (6") pot!
The roots were a solid mass, took a lot of teasing out and the roots were all firm and strong, all the way through the mass. First pic shows how the roots were growing out the old pot, the second the mass just removed, and the third the teased out root mass.
