I love surprises too! and this is surely a good surprise!
How long do this kind of flower last? This is another that I heard as cool growing and difficult, although I know of some masdie that are warm growign or warm tolerant, most of them fancy looking ones seem to be labled as cool grower.
Dang those cool growers. lol

Thanks everyone.
NYCOrchidman, I know my veitchianna has been known to hold flowers for about 5-6 weeks although for the last few years it generally has so many flowers that I've not taken note of individual ones as some fade and others take their place, it was flowering all winter.
This one is probably at least 3 weeks, this is a warmth tolerant one although I keep it with the others in the greenhouse (where it gets down to 5C over the winter) and although it was doing OK previously in the house it does better out there. Growing them in porous clay helps them to grow in warmer conditions than they might otherwise like, provided the clay does not dry out as then it gets hot. I also put it in that when moving it to the greenhouse.

Beautiful blooms! What a nice surprise!
I noticed that the leaves on your plant vary quite a bit in size - do you also notice leaves growing in much smaller than previous ones?
