Have his changes been accepted, or is it still in debate. Maybe a mixed bag. Some I can see being different enough to not be called Masdevallia anymore, but others???

These are definitely not universally accepted, but I think Luer is probably in a better position than anyone else to do something with the Pleurothallids. He does some good groundwork with the genus Pleurothallis, too, a genus that definitely needed some work.

There are quite a number of multi-flora Masdevallias and most of them have been moved by Luer into other genera. Thanks, Rosie.

I was wondering if that was a characteristic that was part of the split. I would look at anything with this sort of shape flower and leaves and call it a Masdivallia and I guess that's what was originally done, and probably why the section needs work to properly classify it.
By the way, my Masdevallia veitchianna must have had about 20 flowers spread over the months since October, often 7 or 8 open at once. Only one left though now. Do you still have the one in your avatar? Does it have really really long flower spikes? Mine are so long and the flowers so heavy it can't support them. I usually leave them draped over the Masdi table, doesn't make good photographs that way but always makes me smile as I go into the greenhouse  |
