Default First Masdie spike: prodigiosa

I'm jumping the gun a bit with this one, but since this is my first Masdie to spike, you can imagine I'm a little over-excited.

Masdevallia prodigiosa arrived with a number of other cool-growing Masdies in early August last year. It has nearly doubled in size since then, but this is the first sign of flowers. There are at least two more spikes which are not clearly visible yet.

For me, this has been a fuss-free plant. I soak it about once a week and it has lived outside nearly the whole winter. I've only brought it in when temps went below 2C at night.

Beautifully grown, Natalie. The flowers are awesome and I trust you'll post pictures when it opens.

Default Update

It's been open for a few days now. To be honest, I am very surprised, and thrilled, it didn't blast. We had some very unseasonably cold weather resulting in below zero temps at night for a good few weeks in March. It was too warm in the house and too cold outside. I brought my cool-growers inside at night, but they did not appreciate it - one of the smaller buds blasted. The colouring is so delicate - translucent peach.
