Default Lepanthes caprimulgus

Named for its supposed resemblance to the family of birds that includes the Whippoorwills.

Very unusual flower. It looks like a small bird opening its beak for the mother....
the colors are yummy....

Thanks, Ron, only that apparently is misidentified as well, though no one seems to know exactly which species it is.

Wow, interesting, Ron. It looks like it'd be fun to try down here. Would it be something that's pretty cold hardy outdoors for SF (temps down to the lower 30s a couple nights per year)? I'm working on assembling a collection of orchids that can do that, and grow them together to create a tropical looking effect, while at the same time getting to indulge my orchid collecting.

I wouldn't be surprised that it would do okay under those conditions, only it's very tiny and one bug can do it in overnight. It's almost impossible to find, too. I sent a seed pod off a few weeks ago, but that'll be a while.

I'd have to think about that for slugs/snails. Don't really have too many other bugs that create problems here so far. Was thinking about getting several different orchids started on the trunk of a bay tree that looks like it'd be a suitable tree.
