Great idea, but as you know there are some orchids that slugs/snails eat like candy.

Yep. While their favorite so far seems to be phals, they like the miltonias and odonts a lot as well. So far they don't seem interested in masdevallias.

I've had trouble with snails on Masdevallia strobellii and a few others before I eradicated them, but Phals seem to be their favorite - they even chew huge holes in the leaves in my experience.

I love how the flower spike follows the leaf and just drops over the tip. Very nice

Ron, I am just fascinated by these pleurothallis. I've been trying to resist the urge to run out and bring a bunch home! I'd like to get my conditions right for them before I go too crazy.

You have some fantastic specimens and I have been enjoying your pictures and posts. Thank you!

Ron, yes, the phals they'd eat the entire leaf if I didn't catch them quick enough. Now I just preemptively put the bait out and so haven't had so much trouble.

That's about the only way to control them. We have both the big Banana Slugs and a European snail here and they can devastate plants in no time, though there are only a few of my plants that go out in the summer.
