Thanks Ron. I had a small mendozae from Ecuagenera that I got this time last year. Sadly I killed it over the summer. I'll be at the Edmonton orchid show later in Feb. so I may give in to trying a hirtzii if they have them along. I could pre-order one, but will just see if it is meant to be. I bought a swamp cooler late last summer so I think my Masdies should be happier this coming summer.
I have more trouble with mendozae than hirtzii. I have trouble keeping mendozae alive, but hirtzii kind of goes through a cycle of doing very well and then sulking a bit from one year to the next.

Good to know. My summer conditions are not ideal for Masdies, although my winter ones are. But I do love some of them and keep insisting on trying them.
It doesn't seem to be the summers as much as the plant just cycles. One year it does well and the next year it sulks. Perhaps I have to look into potting it differently or giving it less light.
I am redoing my orchidarium this summer and giving it more height so that I can move plants further away from the light. I am convinced that some of the pleurothallids need considerably less light than they are getting.
