I am an AOS judge! Your comments were inflammatory and unnecessary! There is much to be learned while learning to be a judge, I didn't do it for money, I didn't need a stipend. I did it because of my fascination with orchids and becoming a judge was just an extension of that fascination. Too bad you're so narrow minded not to realize there is more to be learned than just what you google from the Internet. aOS judges are dedicated to what we do, we enjoy learning from each other and it takes all those years and then some to learn the nuances of do many different speciesvofvirchids.
My comments about you stand, to bad you aren't willing to learn something others could teach you. Or are you afraid their superior knowledge would overwhelm you?
And to quarrel with someone takes equal minds which I doubt you are on this subject.

I agree with IcePenguin. Many times you are an enjoyable person Bud, but there are times where your comments are just unnecessary and unwanted. I find the fact that you say you have based your whole opinion on the AOS system and their judges just from some people opinions online (probably taken out of context or skewed to fit your wants) very childish. Like I said about a dozen times, every student who goes into judging training knows there is will be no monetary support from the AOS, and they are actually going under rules saying that they cannot accept money from people for judging (although there are some circumstances where they can accept up to a reasonable amount for travelling fees). So there is NO way you can claim that they are being abused by not being payed for it!!! IT IS ALL VOLUNTEER WORK!!!!!! If people are unhappy that they don't get any support for becoming a judge, then they leave. So obviously the hundreds of current judges did not take their training as abuse.

My positive opinion of you is dropping faster than I thought it would. I mean seriously, there isn't even one person here who is in agreement with you.

@ goodgollymiss- if that was a reference to my comments that's ok.
I don't need to prove my standing to you , Bud or anyone else. Those that know me know the facts. Maybe Bud if you had an ounce of interest in the AOS or what it stands for or does to promote the conservation of orchids then maybe. But you don't care so there's no need on my part. But go to shows sometime when judging is taking place and you will find me.

Ice Penguin from Illinois whose first orchid was a Rainbow Dance....you lied....you are NOT an AOS Judge....I am basing this from a telephone conversation from a real AOS judge from Illinois :
{edit to delete personal information}
He never heard of you!

so its true you just wanted to quarrel and pick a fight or else you would answer a premise like this in syllogism(you are affected because you take this very personal=)....now tell me what level of intelligence did you want to par?

*over and out.....

I have never met an AOS judge in my life nor do I intend to
and what did you ask? "um sir, i hate you and the aos, but do you know another judge named icepenguin?"

i would just like to point out that you ignored the three posts saying that orchid judges are NOT all rich old people, these are from personal experience. how an you say you know what they are like. when youve never even talked to one?

No, your post hit just before mine. You won't find me visiting the looney bin with Bud. Just to be clear....everyone send Bud a bigger shovel.

"...looks like bud is doing a great job all by himself!"

No Bob, the hole is not getting deep enough fast enough. He needs a backhoe.

Considering there a few hundred if not thousand judges world wide I would be surprised you can pin point one from location alone without a real name! And even then, When doing your training they do not give you a list of every current judges to learn by heart!

As for abuse, what abuse? They class takes 6 to 10 years depending on your abilities to learn and absorb information. The classes are free. They take place once a month. You are in no way and form forced to judge at any time and place not convenient to you. You do not have to bring your own orchids to the class as they will be taken apart for learning purpose in a very drastic way.

So where is the abuse? In the no fee for learning more? In the 1 time a month because of course it does not allow you to keep your job? In the no forced judging? In the fact that your orchids can be criticized if you decide to bring them?

Seriously?

Insulting something for the sake of insulting is getting old!
