Default Masdevallia decumana

Two months ago i divided my big M. decumana plant to three smaller plants, now they all bloom again. Great species, easy to grow and above all it is very showy.

Wow! Just how many gorgeous orchids do you have?? Another one for my wish list although this summer my Masdies didn't fare too well.

OrchidWiz shows this to be quite a cool grower. Do you grow it very cool?

Yes, it is cool grower, but i have tested my plants in different temperatures and i find it quite tolerant.

I think climate in Canada is quite same like we have here in Finland at least summers ... so i can recommend it to you.

Good to know. I can easily give it good conditions in winter in the greenhouse. But summers here are hot and sunny. My Masdies thrive in winter and suffer in summer However we have been making changes in the greenhouse and I bought an evaporative cooler at the end of last summer and I plan to keep my Masdies lower to the ground where its cooler and close to the evaporative cooler.

I have also a cooler and window automatic in my greenhouse, but often the temperature rises quite high but my decumana and other cool grower masdies can stand the heat, but you have to offer them shady and lower places in your greenhouse.

Great pics and plants ! Do you grow it mounted or potted. It is an epiphytic species and it looks better usually when growing on a mount... Your live sphagnum goes very well with it !

I grow many masdies mounted, usually small species, but also i have many species potted.

It is easier to photograph them when mounted. ... many masdies flower "face down"
