Now that's a weird (in a nice way ) flower. Not for me, but very nice colors.

It was flowers like this that first drew me to Masdevallias ...
The thing that never show very well in photos of hybrids lie this is that the colour variation of the flower is actually due to tiny purple hairs. (When viewed from the right angle, the hairs look blue-ish.)
The flower is 5 inches top to tail, and because of the way it rolls back, the width is 1 inch.

D, It seems to require a ton of patience. This one started to colour up weeks ago, and then spent two weeks getting larger and larger. Opening seemed to take FOREVER!
Hang in there, Sue. I'm sure things will turn out alright. Sorry to hear about your schroederiana. Is the rolfeana still doing well?
Thanks, Todd! It gets its brightness from both parents - though the little purple hairs come from the veitchiana parent.

Wow!! Very beautiful! I'm drooling! I wish I could see the purple in it.

It has started to face outward more today (instead of hanging down, which made it diffiult to photograph face on...) so I've tried another shot.
Tin, if you follow the link in photo, you can see a large sized photo - the darker mottling that you see are the little purple hairs - though they still don't show up as purple!
