Congratulations, Ron...that is just awesome!
I also got my batch of Ecuagenera plants and it is the first time I ever saw those kind of orchids.
So...if it is the first time the AOS ever saw a plant, they give it a certificate of merit...thats good to know.

Actually Ron, the award you describe above is a Certificate of Botanical Recognition (CBR). A certificate of Horticultural Merit is "Awarded to a well-grown and well-flowered species or natural hybrid with characteristics that contribute to the horticultural aspects of orchidology, such as aesthetic appeal."
Congratulations.

Thanks, Bud, msaar and Tindo. And I did know the difference between a CBR and a CHM, though the difference between them is always a bit difficult to determine - seems to be mainly that a CHM is awarded to something that's more showy and CBR to something that just hasn't been recognized before..

Ron, you must have a whole jungle filled with these gems. I very much appreciate all the species you have and share with us, and I adore your growing skills.
Masdevallias were the orchids that captured my attention in the beginning. But my actual greenhouse is not the place they like. So I dream over your pictures.

Congratulations, Ron
My own Masdevallias are looking a little under the weather. They don't much enjoy African summer.

Thanks, MALi, euplusia and James. Euplusia, I grow them in an orchidarium (home-built) and only have about 250 plants, all that I have room for and all miniatures. James, I hope yours perk up with cooler weather, Must say, though, that I am ready for an end to our cold and rainy weather.

Ron, isn't cold and rainy good for Masdies???
I try to open my windows to my growing room every night that I know will be foggy and cool. Usually this happens in spring and autumn. However, not enough sun could be bad too.
THis leads me to my next question, since you grow yours in an orchidarium, I suppose that means you use artificial lighting. What kind and how strong. Thanks.
