Default Masdevallias in bloom

Sorry this thread is picture heavy, but aren't they purty?

First one is Masdevallia Pichincha 'Cape View' - I should have cut the stakes, looks untidy.

Masdevallia Minaret 'Lollipop'

Masdevallia goliath - some people believe this is reginae or princeps and I would agree now that it's most likely reginae. 10 inch flowers, requires slightly warmer minimums than other Masdevallias in order to keep the blooms growing and the leaves. I would say 10C minimum is about ideal.

OMG, fantastic!!!!! Bolero, as always, you are one of our Masdie gurus.

It looks like reginae to me too, as goliath is much redder in colour, has a much narrower synsepal and yellow tips on the sepaline tails. .

Yes from here on I am happy for it to be called 'regina'.

;-)

I am even going to change the label. Another thing that has swayed me is the fact that Peruflora had regina in flower and they were very much similar.

Peruflora??? never heard of it.

Take a look at my article on this section of Masdies. I wrote it as part of a contest almost two years ago.
You can use it to compare all the different species in the section of Masdies.

Masdevallia section Durae, or Regalia - Orchid Board
