These are not the best pics. I keep meaning to take some when it's in flower with the black backdrop and I'm not fully happy with any of these. But as I've still not managed to get good shots, I thought I would share these.
Since April this year my Masdie veitchianna has never been out of flower or bud
but I broke 3 out of 11 spikes this morning, really annoyed with myself
April The first time it had multiple flowers/buds at once (four), this was the first to open.
May as with the others this was a quick snap as evidenced by the compost across the table. I could only fit 3 flowers in the shot as the 4th was off at a different angle.
July not a flower shot, but it did have a flower on it at this point. I wanted to show the roots on this thing. I re-potted in July and could not believe how the pot was completely jammed with roots. I didn't have a bigger pot and had to try and squeeze it back in the old one which was not at all easy. This is why it was top heavy once the recent flowers formed, and why it tipped over today and broke the spikes. I was waiting when I got a new pot to re-pot again as I didn't want to with the 11 spikes, but after breaking 3 today I thought it needed to be in a pot that would not tip.
September not sure I like the depth-of-field in this shot or not. It nicely blurs the background but seems almost too much. But then again there is a part of me that quite likes it. This was the first of the recent spikes to open.
October today, taken after the spikes were broken. The second picture shows the broken spikes propped in water with their flowers upside down. I staked all the remaining spikes to help avoid breaking more, however that turned the flowers at wrong angles because then had opened with the spikes sagged down. I still love seeing how happy this guy is, I never expected to be able to grow this orchid so I can't help but smile to see it so happy
(just wish I hadn't broken spikes
)
