That's really neat. If you were to let it dry out in the winter, would it just remain the temperature of the room? (You'd have to spray more often of course) This looks like a good idea for us apartment dwellers, struggling with summer temps.

Do you mean not filling the inside of the tube and just watering the plant on the outside? I think any amount of moisture would be absorbed into the porous clay of the tube which would probably cause some cooling when it evaporated. Although, it would probably still be warmer than filling the tube with water. When the tube is completely dry its about room temperature.
I have an update on my Dracula. I was actually planning to wait to post an update until it had been at least a month since I'd mounted it on the cool tube, but I have to share this news. My Dracula vespertillio has 3 spikes! I honestly can't believe it has spiked this quickly. I'm so happy about it. Needless to say, I am sold on these cool tubes...which is good because I lack self control and ordered another one and a Dracula for it last week.
good growing!!!! I was looking at getting a cool stick for a couple of Dens....
I use plastic baskets or clay pots filled with moss for my draculas and massies...... High so far this summer has been 96 in the shade with 20% H......no problems... Cant wait for Aug.!!!!!!
