Rosie I also noticed that most of my new growths are shorter than the rest of the leaves. I thought maybe they were unhappy. Never attributed it to brighter light.

Hi Terry, sorry I'm just catching up on some posts I missed.

I'm pretty certain it's the light with mine. The veitchianna trippled in size last year (based on leaf count), all the leaves seem healthy and strong, just more compact. As I said above it also has 4 spikes (1 open, 1 close and 2 still growing) and last I saw the roots they actually suprised me with how good they looked. My others seem to be doing the same but I'm not worried about their health as they seem great in every other way.
