Masdevallia princeps super spiking!
So my princeps' flower spike died on me late last summer when I moved into an old house with no humidity and terrible air flow.
As a last ditch effort, I moved it and the rest of my orchids to my boyfriend's house where they are stashed under a glass desk in a spare room with a T-5 fixture giving them their much needed sunlight.
My Masdy loooves it in this spot where it stays between 58 and 65 degrees and never gets below 50% humidity. It now has FIVE flower spikes and I could not be more excited since it's my favorite 'chid!
Here's a pic of it where you can see all the glorious spikes.
I just want them all to bloom now but I must be patient!

Looks like a happy camper! Can't wait to see the blooms. I have two masdies and one of them has one short spike that I just noticed yesterday. I can't wait either! It will be the first bloom.

This is my favourite group of Masdevallias (Regalia subgenus or genus). I have M. princeps, regina, panguiensis, ayabacana, and titan and a bunch of their hybrids. For the last couple of months many of the hybrids have been blooming for me. All have gorgeous large flowers. My princeps has not bloomed for me yet. Have had it for a few years, but I got it as a division and is still small I think. And its growing a lot. I CANT WAIT TO SEE YOURS BLOOM!!!!!!!

i didnt mist it. i think it may have been insufficient humidity, at least the first time. the second time, i had it over a humidity tray, with a humidifier going. when the 2nd spike started to slightly yellow (not beyond the point of being saved) i moved it closer to the humidifier. didnt help
