Masdevallia decumana
A fantastic miniature plant with lots and lots of big blooms. This one is in a 1" pot and it has 7 flowers. This is the third time it has bloomed in the last six months.
This was a gift from Ron Hanko. Thank you so much, Ron!!!

Wow, those blooms really are huge compared to the rest of the plant. I love OB buddies like that

Really nice plant. That's also a nice moss colony you got going there. It seems that the nicer Masdies you see all have a good growth of moss with them.

High humidity and lots of water. Seems like most of the Pleurothallids like it, and the moss likes the same conditions. I actually plant moss on my mounts and pots because I like the look of it. I've found that the downside is that I end up needing to "weed" the moss pretty frequently, especially on small plants.
I'm growing this one in chunks of EcoWeb (from FirstRays Orchids). I use EcoWeb mounts for most others. I can water every day without the plants ever actually being wet.

Gorgeous!!!!
Thanks for the eco web tip. Def need something like that.
I also find that moss and Masdies like relatively bright lighting. Never grown them together though.

I really like the EcoWeb. I'm always looking for the "magic bullet" growing medium - ask me again in a year or two, but I really like what I've seen so far. It has no nutritive value of its own, so fertilizing frequently is important. I fertilize with a very dilute solution most days.
I've planted mini ferns and various mosses all over the mounts and pots. I look forward to seeing which ones do well...
