A new Masdie lover, an introduction
Hello everyone
I'm a relatively new orchid grower. I grow many different species, but the masdies (like that word) are my favorites.
I live in Denmark, a small country with cold winters and hot summers. I also need to apologize for my English, which could have been better.
I grow my masdies in a viv. in a basement. Because Denmark is so close to Sweden, from which Epiwep originates from, we have had this product a bit longer than everybody else. A bit unfair right.
I grow all my masdies in this medium, and they seem to like it. A good trick is to mix moss with water in a kitchen machine, and then poor it down on top of the EW. In a few months moss will cover the EW, which looks very nice, and retain some moist too.
The Masdies I grow at the time are:
M. strobelii
M. princeps
M. Aquarius
M. coccinea (normal, and alba)
I don't know how common M. Aquarius are around the world, but here it's quite common. Easy to grow and i has lovely flowers too. I'll see if I can post a pic ...
Thats all for now.
Bye

Thanks
Yes, this is a very nice masdy, heat tolerant too. At the time this is the only flower that it's got, but 2 new spikes are already on their way.
Ross: More pictures hmm... I have no other pics of flowering masdies, so I will have to show you my Phal sturtiana end Den. formosum.
Did I mention that I love photographing my orchids

Hi Niller and welcome to board
I love Masdies too. Your orchids are warm tolerant?

Did anybody mention our universal addiction to orchid pictures? Bring 'em on!
My addiction has three layers:
Orchids
Orchid pics and
OrchidBoard!

Hi Ludisia
It depends of which of them you are referring to.
As said before, M. Aqurius and also M princeps should be warm tolerant. Note, tolerant, not growing. But I have had much better results growing them in cool conditions.
The other masdies should grow in cool or cold conditions.
All my other 'chids are warm-growers

Haha, yes that's right, but the fact that we are in the Pleuro's forum made me a bit nervous about posting none-pleuro pics.

Hello to Denmark from the UK!
Always good to 'see' a fellow Masdie lover on this 'side of the world'! I'm right there with you on the photography as well... with flowers are photogenic as these, it is understandable.
Aquarius is a nice plant. They were readily available here a couple of years ago... but not now, it seems.
Can't wait to see more of your photos when the others bloom.

Hello
Yes, I almost got the feeling that I'm all alone in EU on this (american) international forum.
No seriuosly; I'm glad you liked my photos. But I'm afraid that we are going to wait for a while with the other plants. Even though we have chilly weater now, I still think that I will have much more succes and blooming with them when the winter comes.
Thank you for writing; it's always exciting to hear from people around the world, especially when we shae the same passion(s).
Thats All from Denmark for now :-)
