Masdevallia (Alaticaulia) phoebe
I'm easing into the new genus names for the polyphyletic mess that was Masdevallia. It's interesting - the first few that I looked up the new genus name for were a little tricky, but after looking up several, the new groupings started to really make sense.
The Alaticaulias are generally warmth-tolerant and sequential bloomers, making them some of the best "Masdevallias" for beginners and home growers.
Photographed in Ecuagenera's main (cooler-growing) nursery at Gualaceo, Ecuador (near Cuenca).

I hope you do not think I am following you around the board here, but your photos are to good to miss and not make some comment on. More and more I am collecting orchids from the Americas and these from Ecuador are magnificent! AL

Al,
I'm so glad you're enjoying them. I've always thought that there were photos of too few species. There are so many magnificent plants that, for one reason or another, we never hear about.
I've put very few pics up on discussion boards because of the time constraints, but I'm pretty close to "real time" on Flickr (I'm about 10% of the way through uploading another 262 photos there). At this rate, I have about a year's worth of forum posts and I'm here for another two weeks!
Off to bed - everyone's an early riser here...

That's cute. Love the colour.
To me I look at it and think Masdie, so I can see why originally they were all classed as that. I can guess that with the numbers of them you have been looking at recently the new groupings start to make sence.

Very nice work you are doing. THis one is very cute, small yet has a strong colour. In short, I love it!

Thanks for the encouragement! If you're enjoying the pics, feel free to send a note to: info@ecuagenera.com. They've been great hosts, putting up with me and my camera for so long!
