Hi guys,

Been a long time since I came to this board again...just wanted to post an update on the one and only one orchid I got. I wanted this for 3 y and finally got one around 2y ago. For first year was potted in the small plastic pot...never really liked it. I even repotted it and it maybe made like a leaf in like 5 months or so.

Ever since I put it on bark...it took off. I occasionally...which I mean once in 3 months or so...randomly spray it with a diluted orchid fert (no urea) better gro one.

Nevertheless can't complain. Although I do wish I had it grow more leaves. Damn thing just keeps flowering non-stop. makes me worry if it will flower itself to death. Sorry...I have no idea about orchids...but I grow carnivorous plants which use up a lot of energy to flower.

Any idea of how to split lepanthes? I would like to make some backup plants.

Also...I am going away for a vacation in a couple of weeks for one week. Is it ok if I bag this baby up in a aquarium store fish bag and seal it up for the one week under lights to prevent water loss?

thanks,

V

Man! I wish I could get more lepanthes species here in canada.

BTW...to add in..it tolerated temps of nearly 100F at the lights during summer. Tough little bugger. I love this sweety. Now its tolerating temps of 48F.

haha!! Funny looking back.

Honestly I couldn't have expected more. I love this darling.
This is when I got it...november 2008.

this is the max number of leaves it had when it was potted.

My baby is all grown up. Although I only can dream and hope it can become like this one day. Any tips guys??

I'm afraid I can't give tips on this one as I've never grown it. But it's really looking good for you and has certainly grown well.

I really love this orchid and will have to try one sometime.

Wow, it really has grown so much since you got it! Well done, looks like you found it's happy spot. This is my absolute favorite Lepanthes, I love the little satellite dish blooms. The day I get a terrarium this is the first thing going in there. Is that live sphag growing on the mount with it?

actually.. live sphag seems to not establish that well. It becomes too dry too fast. So that greeness is all just most algae. Can't get rid of that algae. I freaking hate it.

Nice growing.

I wouldn't put it in a bag for a week. You don't want to know how many nasty things can grow in a bag during one week.

You could always take it with you on vacation. Sounds silly, but that'w what I do with my mounted orchids (all minis) Next week I'll be packing them all into my carry on bag to fly home to France for the holidays.

LOL! I don't think I might get it back if I take it to cuba with me.lol! But there are other important plants at stake too. I stil think putting it in a bag with the top open and some moss in water at the bottom is a good place to rest the cork mount. That way the water can wick up slightly on the cork and the moss willkeep it humid while not completely air tight.
