Masdevallia Machu Picchu
Got this one about a 7 months ago and it has put on some new leaves since then and two of those leaves developed spikes. This is the first of the two spikes to bloom. I'm so HAPPY!!!! Its a gorgeous amgenta/purple colour. I had a hard time getting the right colour on my pictures in artificial lighting. Then when I put it in the sunlight (in which it grows) the colours came out nicer on the camera.
High humidity, lots of cool air, and lots of sunshine. Yes sunshine. I am growing all my masdies in sun. Direct south window sun. They get a good 4-5 hours of it on sunny days. There are so many plants though that they tend to shade each other. But they get lots of sun. And they are not complaining. In fact I think the sun has made them all go into bloom.
Please don't suddenly expose your Masdies to sun, do it slowly if you do it.

I love Masde's and that one is gorgeous, Tin! I grow mine (only have two) in bright light also. Very nice bloom!

Awright, you've convinced me. I have one of these, was in bloom when purchased for me, and hasn't re-bloomed since. More light is clearly the issue, because it's doing well with new leaves and the like after recovering from some rot.
It's a lovely plant with that deep, rich crimson color.

I was astounded by this one at Norman's table at Denver's show in october. Glad to see it again!!! You two seem to get a long, what a fantastic flower. I just can't get over the color of this hybrid.
