I just used packaged sphagnum moss from New Zealand. It's dry when I get it but not dead. I need to start putting river pebbles on top to stop it growing like that but honestly it doesn't hurt the plant.

Thinks that's one for my wish list as well.
What sort of temps does it like? I have a greenhouse which is currently being based arround what Masdie veitchianna likes so is likely to be allowed down to 5C/6C over the winter (although it will be it's first winter) others than can deal with that cold should do well for me I think.

wow, what a gorgeous hybrid. Rosie, this one might be up your alley. Its got veitchiana as a Maternal grandfather, and as great great grandmother on the maternal side again. And then again as great grandmother on the paternal side.

I grow it down to 0C so you shouldn't have any trouble at all with 6C.
