I tend to mount those that are smaller and have lax spikes, Rosie, since they look better that way than in a pot, though in this case I do have a decumana in a pot as well.

Can you tell us how is it mounted and how do you keep it moist enough? It looks like you have a bit of sphagnum moss around the roots and spontaneous moss growing on top. Is the mount a piece of western red cedar by any chance?
That's exactly how it's mounted and the mount is red cedar, I believe though it was originally the mount of another plant. Wood like this should be well weathered, however - I at least am always afraid of what might be in the wood in the way of sap and substances toxic to orchids if it's not.
