I recently picked up a masdie queen dean during a vacation and would love some tips to keeping this hybrid. Has anyone had any luck with this guy? I recall that one of its parents is Dean Haas but I can't recall the other. Are these guy's warmth tolerant? I really hope so.
I've never grown a masdie before but this little guy and his little orange blooms looked amazing. He was in active growth so I did place him in in s/h yesterday.
I don't know this specific Masda, but I have had good luck growing my two Masda as humid as possible and they tend to like cool condtions. Even the Masda which are 'intermediate' are on the cool side of intermediate.
I have mine potted in moss (this is the ONLY genus I grow in moss) in clay pots. The clay is meant to help keep them cool as the water evaporates.
Another thing is that they don't like high fertiliser levels or high levels of disolved minerals. I don't manage to collect much rain water, but what I do I save for the Masda's. Tap water is meant to not be very good for them, however for several months mine grew with tap water as I didn't have anything else. I think I live in an area with high quality water though.
Hi Rosie thanks so much for the reply. I love my little plant but it's the first one I've ever seen much less owned. I'm still a masdie noobie haha. I moved my plant to s/h but it has one bud nearly open and three more forming. I can't bring myself to cut them off just yet. The bloom's only a few days from opening :S! So excited but I feel so guilty about not letting the plant put more energy into roots! Anyway, ty! I'm rambling haha .
