Yep. No cost for paperwork when they ship from the US. Additionally, the growers are taking the risks of bringing the plants through customs - they know most of the people they're dealing with, and they can get them through much more efficiently than just mailing. I think the model that Ecuagenera and Orquideas del Valle use is a great one. Colomborquideas does basically the same thing, using Colombian Orchid Imports as their point of contact here in the US.
It's been years since I've imported orchids. I never needed an attorney for any of it, but it was certainly a hassle. The worst part was that occasionally a shipment would be fumigated, which would kill a lot of plants. Now that there are such good outlets for South American orchids, I will let the growers do all the importing. I don't know about Asian or African importers - I'm sure there are some good ones out there...
