It has cooled off some.

The Masd did okay. It's just those unattractive leaf spots. Some are pretty large. We'll see how it does when it gets more established and starts growing.

One thing's for sure, this guy doesn't like excessive heat. Anything above 90 F is going to stress it out big time. They won't necessarily die, but they get the dreaded leaf spotting.

Nice choice. Hope it does well and survives the heat for you.

Have you heard the trick of potting Masdas in porous clay so that the evaporation cools the root zone. I'm only just in the process of trying it but I've heard it claimed that you can grow Masdas in higher temps that way because the roots are being kept cool.

Yup. I was aware of that. I didn't choose to do it with this one though. Maybe I should later down the line.

I was able to grow a cool to intermediate growing Masd with a clay pot. Masd dynastes. Bloomed too!

BTW, it's down to 2 leaves. But it's got a nice strong root system.

It's been remarkably cooler these past few days. Hopefully it can rally back from this disaster in time for next summer!

I use a pot wrapped in a wet cloth to cool down the roots. The end of the cloth is always in the water, wchich is below the masd. A picture here: xristie9 | Orchideovnik ? rajce.net

Good idea wrapping the pot will try that, right now mine are in the a/c ..

Alright, people! I got 2 new Masd andreetaeana and they seem to be doing well so far. I've had them for approximately 6- 8 months, (if I'm off on the timing, it's been almost 1 yr since I've had them).

There have been a couple of times when the temperature rose to around 90 F (~ 32 C), and these little guys weathered it quite nicely (so I now retract the statement of it being unable to tolerate high temperatures).

Apparently the first couple tries were with damaged/diseased plants (plants were damaged on transit, which left wounds open to attack from pathogens).
