Thanks so much for posting the viv. pics.
They look great. I would like to have something like that some day. I have a 45gal fish tank that has been sitting in by basement for 2 years not used maybe I can make it into an orchidarium. What kind of lighting do you use?
Is it hard to maintain?

I know you addressed this to Tin, but I just wanted to say the aquarium will make a GREAT Orchidarium and/or Vivarium. Tin is a master of converting these tanks and has an article on his process in the articles section. I made one and so have lots of others and you can too. Lighting can be anything from Compact Florescent bulbs like you'b by at Home Depot (get largest you can find) or fancy t5 florescent banks that look similar to shop lights. There are lots of styles and just about all of them are being used by board members with lot's of success. Happy growing.

Hi,
I'm using powercompacts. The type they use for salt water reef hobby. Lots of light. 6500K at 65watts each x2. It releases alot of heat, but is perfect for this tall setup as the heat has a hard time getting all the way down the 30 inches of height.
The maitenance is extremely easy, just mist your orchids daily.
To build it, you make a background using pond liner foam, and once that hardens you can silicone coco-fiber to it to make it look natural. The orchid don't really care. All they want is something to grab on to.
Here is a link to my construction journal.

Ofcourse I would....I the SuperMod. :mauhaha:
Anyway, Im far from being a Master at converting these, but I am getting good at it.
Well, Im just saying its really easy to do, and you don't have to be good and making stuff to do it. I did it.

Can you outline it for us?
|
Do we have access to a drawing tool? I tried using a program I have but I could not get it into jpg format.
Oh well. Look at the first (top) picture of your plant. THe fawn is standing behind the plant with it's head on the left side and the silver leave on the far left is the fawn's ear! the edge of the driftwood is it's nose...Look for a BIG fawn in the background, not a small one....keep looking...maybe you'll win a prize...
