Brown-black depressed spots on Masd. leaves
Hey all,
So my new masd. Sunset Jaguar came to me 4 days ago looking perfect, but since then, two leaves have developed these brown/black spots on the leaves that are slightly depresessed and bruised looking. And they look worse every day!
I literally took the plant out of the box, didn't unpot it, and tucked it in a temporary brand new plastic orchid pot in some sphag.
I can post a picture if it would help, but I have no idea what this is, whether I should remove the leaves, ignore them, or what.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pics asap please. This is something that shouldn't be ignored. It happened way too quickly to be ignored.
Might be a root problem. Might be temperature related.
Gotta give more details.
Temp, humidity, etc.
Oh, and if the leaves are too far gone, they'll take care of the grooming for you (they'll drop on their own).

This is my windowsill masd. It is on an east facing window, experiencing temps around 60 degrees, humidity between 65 and 80%.
The plant came to me in a small basket type plastic pot, packed in spag. I haven't watered it since, but packed it in new damp sphag that is still damp. Pics to follow momentarily.

I'm not sure about the brown leaves but the plant looks pretty dry. What kind of air circulation do you have?

Honestly, I don't have great air circulation. I am in the process of moving, and the 'chids will have their own air purifier in the new place, but where I am now, there is really no good way to move air. We leave windows all over the house cracked, so there is constant air movement, but it isn't enough to ruffle leaves or anything.

What was the reason for potting it inside of the additional pot full of moss? Not sure what the problem is on the leaves, but they look bacterial. I'd cut those few leaves off that have those spots on them. It doesn't look good and could spread!

Hi Becca,
There were a lot of exposed roots in the original pot, and I didn't have time this work week to repot into a larger pot. I was concerned that the exposed arial roots would dry out if they weren't in moss.
I will clip the leaves and treat with cinnamon for now.

Check the roots please. Your plant may have root rot.
The leaves also look a bit yellow.
I don't recommend growing the net pot inside another pot with moss.
Wet the moss thoroughly before removing the it from the roots. Remove the moss carefully, the roots are thin and probably very sparse in number.

Did anyone mention not to use tap water with a Masdevallia?
